DTF Film Process

FAQs

How to choose the right DTF FILM?
DTF (direct to film) printing is a method of transferring a printed design to fabric or other substrate via a heat press. It can accurately reproduce pattern colors on any color substrate and is suitable for printing on various fabric materials, such as cotton, polyester, canvas, denim, knitting, etc. The versatility of DTF technology, which enables it to print on different materials, has attracted the attention of many manufacturers in the textile printing industry. The process of DTF printing is so simple that even novices can operate it easily. Just use a direct to film printer to print your design on the DTF transfer film, then sprinkle with DTF powder, heat and dry, and you will get a “heat transfer sticker”. You can instantly transfer this “Heat Transfer Sticker” to your products, such as apparel, or save it for future printing. This is indeed a good way for manufacturers to reduce inventory costs. DTF transfer film is a transfer medium specially designed for DTF printing. It is used to carry the inkjet printed pattern of the DTF printer, and then transfer the pattern to fabric or other materials through heat pressing. Choosing High-quality DTF transfer film is vital to your printing business as it directly affects print quality. Helps protect your printer and improve printing success rate, avoid material waste, and effectively control production costs. What kind of transfer film can be used for DTF printing? DTF printing requires the use of DTF film, often called PET transfer film, but not all PET films can be used for DTF printing. Compared with ordinary PET film, DTF transfer film has a special ink-absorbing coating, so it usually presents a matte frosted effect instead of being transparent. Untreated, low-quality films may be cheaper, but they may stain, stick, or damage your clothing. How to identify the quality of DTF film? The quality of the film can be identified from the following three aspects. 1. High temperature resistant base film Last but not least, the base film must be resistant to high temperatures. There will be some films that are perfect when printed, but during the thermal transfer process, the base PET film will curl or even melt due to its intolerance to high temperatures. It’s very scary to be faced with this situation at the last minute. 2. Transparency The most obvious difference between different quality DTF transfer films from the surface is the difference in transparency. Generally speaking, opaque film will produce better results because it tends to have a thicker coating and better ink absorption. Some suppliers will indicate the product name. DTF films can be divided into 75μ and 100μ, indicating the thickness of the coating film. Typically 75μ DTF film is sufficient for most printing needs, while 100μ DTF film is suitable for higher standard printing. 3.Coating quality DTF transfer film with poor coating quality looks perfect at first glance. In fact, it repels DTF ink when printing, causing the ink to bleed off the film and stain the printer as well as your hands and clothing. Another possibility is uneven coating. This will also cause your print to be uneven and you will end up with spots throughout your pattern. A DTF transfer film with good coating quality needs to have the following characteristics. High ink load capacity No ink loss occurs even when printing with Qualcomm. There is a layer in the coating of DTF film called a release layer. The stable and uniform release layer can ensure that the base film is smooth and non-adhesive when the base film is peeled off. Easy to peel off, after shaking the powder, excess DTF powder will not adhere to the unprinted area, ensuring smooth printing edges, the ink will not smudge when printing, and very fine lines can be printed clearly. Even if you know how to identify a good DTF transfer film, you may still be confused because there are so many types of DTF films on the market. today’s market. Maybe you have seen some such adjectives when shopping: cold peel, hot peel, glossy, matte, glitter, fluorescent… So what do these words mean? how to choose? 1. Cold peel DTF film. It means that after lamination, the DTF transfer film needs to wait for the embossed part to cool before it can be peeled off. 2. Heat peel off DTF film. The 100μ thermal peelable DTF film can be peeled off in seconds without waiting, effectively improving your production efficiency. 3. Smooth DTF film, commonly known as single-sided DTF film. There is only a coated DTF film on one side and a smooth PET base film on the other side. Novices can easily distinguish the printing sides by selecting them. 4. Matte DTF film, also known as double-sided DTF film. This does not mean that you can print on both sides. It can only be printed on one side, and the other side is also made into a matte frosted effect. That is to increase the friction during the printing process, making it more stable and preventing the film from sliding and affecting the printing effect. 5. Flash DTF film. It adds a glitter powder coating to the coating of the DTF transfer film to achieve the glitter printing effect and can be a perfect substitute for glitter powder. 6. Gold DTF film. Coated with gold glitter, giving your DTF more options and better application range for printing by providing a luxurious shiny gold foil stamping on your design. 7. Reflective colored DTF film. When you shine light on this transfer DTF film, you can find a suitable angle to see a color reflection effect similar to the reflective heat transfer film, which is very suitable for personalized customization. 8. Luminous DTF film. This is a photoluminescence effect that stores light and has a long afterglow. You can use it for special clothing designs and bring more creativity to your customers. It’s perfect for T-shirts, bags, shoes, socks and other materials and allows our prints to glow in the dark. 9. DTF gold/silver foil. It has a shimmering metallic sheen that adds sparkle to your designs, and its washability makes the shine last longer. 10. Fluorescent DTF. The fluorescent effect of DTF is not achieved through transfer film, but requires DTF fluorescent ink. Choose any of the above DTF transfer films and use a fluorescent DTF printer to print neon effect prints. The last step requires you to choose the appropriate DTF film according to the printing width of the DTF printer (eg: 30cm dtf printer, 40cm dtf printer, 60cm dtf printer, etc.). This tutorial will teach you how to choose DTF transfer film.
Why white ink cannot be output?
Common problems caused are: poor contact of the print head, that is, the cable of the print head is connected to the machine itself, and the software cannot obtain some data information of the print head, resulting in the inability to output white ink normally. 1. The nozzle part is related to the machine hardware. Common problems caused are: poor contact of the print head, that is, the cable of the print head is connected to the machine itself, and the software cannot obtain some data information of the print head, resulting in the inability to output white ink normally. The solution is as follows: As usual, we need to consider whether the cable of the print head is damaged due to long-term use, and then the cable of the print head is damaged due to liquid entering, the damage of the print head, the damage of the print head and the printing plate, which are some damages to the hardware of the DTF printer. 2. It is also related to the hardware of the machine. It depends on whether the ink system of the whole machine is designed for DTF printers during the manufacturing process. Due to the particularity of white ink, white ink belongs to coating ink. During normal use, precipitation will occur, which is the main source of all problems. Therefore, TEXTEK has made regular optimizations to the ink system of the dtf white ink printer, adding a stirring system and a timed circulation function, with the aim of ensuring that the ink maintains normal concentration and activity from the ink tube to the nozzle. The white ink precipitation solution is as follows: 1. Ink bottle: Before any printing or maintenance operation, the ink bottle should be shaken to avoid precipitation. This simple but effective method avoids many problems. Some printers on the market currently already include this function. 2. Nozzle cleaning: There are three solutions as follows. The first one is solved by software, which is divided into two ways: clearing ink and filling ink. If both methods have been tried and the problem is still not solved, then the second manual method can be used to solve it, which is divided into two types. A. Soaking method: First seal the nozzle with the printing pad, and then soak it in warm water. After the impurities in the warm water are soaked, the software (cleaning ink) needs to be used to proceed to the next step, and then verify whether the problem is solved. B. If the soaking has not solved the problem, then the internal fault problem must be considered, such as at the nozzle. If there are too many blocked things, the inside needs to be cleaned. First, inject the cleaning fluid into the nozzle with a syringe to dissolve the impurities. After the impurities are dissolved, they will flow out, and then the impurities will be sucked out. After that, the impurities need to be washed out using software (cleaning ink). . If the above two methods do not solve the problem, then the third method can be used: accessory troubleshooting method. 1). It may be that the ink has not been injected yet. 2). It may also be a software setting problem (the damper is broken, whether the ink pad is sealed, and whether the nozzle is completely damaged can be ruled out from these three points). Usually we will recommend that you can reuse the first solution. If the problem is not solved, then we recommend that you use the third solution. 3. Damper: If there is air in the damper, it can be sucked out with a syringe. If the damper has a lot of sediment, it needs to be replaced. 4. Rinse: Clean the nozzle with cleaning fluid.
Why does the printed pattern bleed?
Several reasons for ink bleeding: • Using the wrong curve can also cause white ink to bleed • Short shelf life, coating deterioration, and weak ink absorption performance can also cause ink bleeding • For customers who have stopped production, the machine has not been printed for a while, and white ink has settled (water on top and sediment on the bottom), causing ink bleeding. When the machine is just turned on, you can shake the ink evenly, or it will be normal after printing for a while
Why does the oil return after printing the pattern?
There is an ingredient in DTF white ink, which we call a humectant. Its function is to prevent the print head from clogging. Without the humectant, the print head will easily stop. The main component of the humectant is glycerin. Glycerin is a transparent, odorless, viscous liquid. It can absorb moisture from the air. Therefore, glycerin is a good humectant. Glycerin is miscible with water and ethanol, and the aqueous solution is neutral. At the same time, glycerin does not chemically react with other ingredients in DTF white ink, thereby affecting the quality of the ink. The melting point of glycerin is much higher than that of water. Due to the physical properties of glycerin, its drying is impossible. If the drying process is not sufficient, glycerin will appear on the DTF transfer film after a period of time. And you look greasy. To sum up, incomplete drying, or over-baking, is related to the baking time and baking temperature
Ink Smudging
You have just completed a DTF print on a t-shirt. However, upon inspection, you notice that the ink from the design has smudged and blurred, resulting in a messy and unprofessional appearance. This can be disappointing, especially if it was meant for a customer order or an important event. Ink smudging occurs when the printed design smears or smudges during or after the transfer process, leading to an unsatisfactory final output. Solution: Ensure proper drying time for the printed design before the transfer process. Increase the drying time or use a heat press to accelerate drying if necessary.
Image Blurring
You have spent time and effort creating a detailed and intricate design for a customer's custom hoodie. However, after the transfer process, you notice that the edges of the design appear blurred and the fine details are not as crisp as expected. The blurring detracts from the overall quality and impact of the print. Image blurring refers to the loss of sharpness and clarity in the printed design, which can make the final print look unprofessional and affect its visual appeal. Solution: Use high-quality images with suitable resolution for printing. Adjust the print settings to maintain sharpness and clarity.
Color Inconsistencies
You are working on printing a logo with specific brand colors onto a t-shirt. However, when you inspect the final print, you notice that the colors are not accurately represented. The logo appears slightly different, with shades that are not consistent with the brand's identity. This discrepancy can be problematic, especially when striving for brand consistency. Color inconsistencies happen when the printed colors differ from the intended or desired colors, causing frustration when trying to match specific design requirements. Solution: Regularly calibrate your printer and use color profiles that match the desired output. Perform color tests and adjustments to achieve accurate color reproduction.
Film Wrinkling
As you prepare to print a design on a DTF film, you notice that the film is not properly stretched and secured onto the printing surface. As a result, wrinkles form on the film, causing alignment issues and distorting the final print. The wrinkles create a visually unappealing effect and undermine the precision of the design. Film wrinkling occurs when the DTF film wrinkles during the printing process, resulting in distorted prints and compromising the accuracy of the design. Solution: Ensure proper film tension and alignment on the printing surface. Avoid excessive tension or uneven stretching, which can lead to wrinkles.
