The Process of Sublimation Paper

FAQs

How should we preserve our sublimation paper
Store sublimation transfer paper in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with environmental conditions maintained at: Humidity: 40-70% RH Temperature: 10-30°C (50-86°F) Ideal Storage: Climate-controlled (air-conditioned) room for consistent quality. Special Notes for Sticky Sublimation Paper: Must be stored in <70% humidity. Keep sealed in plastic bags and place in a shaded area. General Storage Tips: Store on pallets or shelves 15-20 cm (6-8 inches) above the floor to avoid moisture. Stacking limit: ≤8 layers to prevent deformation. Shelf Life: Sticky paper: ≤180 days Other types: ≤300 days Following these guidelines ensures optimal performance and longevity.
About the application scope of adhesive thermal transfer paper
Adhesive heat transfer paper has a wide range of applications due to its ability to efficiently and precisely transfer patterns, text, or images from paper onto various substrates. Below are the primary application areas: 1. Textiles Apparel & Accessories: T-shirts, sportswear, jeans, caps, scarves, gloves, and other garments. Customization: Ideal for printing personalized designs, text, or brand logos on fabrics. 2. Hard Materials Plastics, Metal, Wood, Glass, Ceramics: Suitable for smooth, heat-resistant surfaces that can withstand transfer temperatures and pressure. 3. Electronics & Gadgets Device Casings: Smartphones, laptops, tablets, gaming consoles, and remote controls. Branding & Decoration: Used for printing logos, decorative patterns, or promotional text. 4. Home & Interior Products Furniture, Doors, Walls, Flooring: Enhances aesthetics with custom prints. Kitchenware & Tableware: Plates, mugs, and utensils for personalized or branded designs. 5. Packaging & Labels Product Packaging: Prints barcodes, QR codes, product info, or branding. Anti-Counterfeiting: Enhances security features on labels. 6. Advertising & Promotional Materials Signage & Displays: Billboards, posters, banners. Marketing Collaterals: Flyers, brochures, and promotional items. 7. Customization & Merchandising Corporate Branding: Company logos on uniforms, merchandise. Event Souvenirs: Team jerseys, commemorative gifts. Key Considerations Substrate Compatibility: Material type, surface smoothness, and heat resistance must be evaluated. Testing Required: Optimal transfer settings (temperature, pressure, time) vary by material—always test before full-scale production. Adhesive heat transfer paper offers versatility across industries but requires proper technique and substrate assessment for the best results.
What is the difference between thermal sublimation transfer and other digital printing technologies?
The key differences between dye sublimation transfer technology and other digital printing methods lie in working principles, compatible materials, color performance, durability, and production costs. Below is a detailed comparison: 1. Working Principle Technology Principle Characteristics Dye Sublimation Uses heat (180–220°C) to convert solid dye into gas, bonding with materials (e.g., polyester or coated surfaces) The design becomes part of the material—no added layer, soft and breathable. Inkjet Printing Liquid ink is sprayed directly onto the material surface. Works on various materials but may leave a noticeable ink layer. Screen Printing Ink is pressed through a mesh stencil onto the material. Best for bulk orders; thick ink layers may feel stiff. DTG (Direct-to-Garment) Specialized inks are printed directly onto fabric (requires pretreatment for cotton). Good for cotton but less durable. Laser Transfer Uses laser heat to transfer designs from a film onto materials. High precision but expensive. 2. Compatible Materials Technology Best For Limitations Dye Sublimation Polyester (≥65%), polymer-coated hard surfaces (ceramic/metal/plastic). Not suitable for pure cotton or dark fabrics. Inkjet Printing Paper, plastics, some fabrics (depends on ink type). Requires special coatings; standard inks fade easily. Screen Printing Cotton, polyester, hard materials (with compatible inks). High setup costs; not ideal for complex designs. DTG Cotton fabrics (requires pretreatment). Poor performance on dark fabrics; less wash-resistant. Laser Transfer Various materials (requires specialized transfer films). Expensive equipment; best for industrial use. 3. Color & Resolution Technology Color Quality Resolution Texture Dye Sublimation Vibrant, smooth gradients (no dot patterns). High (2880+ DPI). No added layer, soft. Inkjet Printing Depends on ink; standard inks may fade. Medium-high (1440 DPI). Possible ink texture. Screen Printing Bold colors but poor gradients. Low (depends on mesh count). Thick, plasticky feel. DTG Faded on dark fabrics. Medium-high (similar to inkjet). Slightly stiff. Laser Transfer Accurate but limited color depth. Medium (depends on film quality). Varies by transfer film. 4. Durability & Cost Technology Wash Resistance UV Resistance Production Cost Best For Dye Sublimation Excellent (no fading). High. Medium (ink + paper costs). Custom sportswear, promo items. Inkjet Printing Poor (standard inks). Low. Low (but requires coating). Short-term ads, paper prints. Screen Printing Good (thick ink layer). Medium. High setup + low bulk cost. Bulk orders (team uniforms). DTG Moderate (on cotton). Low. High (ink + pretreatment). Single-piece complex designs. Laser Transfer Excellent. Excellent. Very high (equipment cost). Industrial production (signage). 5. Key Advantages Comparison Dye Sublimation: ✅ High Durability: Designs bond internally—resistant to washing/friction. ✅ Soft & Breathable: No added layer, ideal for activewear. ✅ Photorealistic Quality: Smooth gradients, vibrant colors. ❌ Material Limits: Only works on polyester or coated substrates. Other Technologies’ Drawbacks: Inkjet: Standard inks fade; requires special media. Screen Printing: Not ideal for complex designs; high setup costs. DTG: Pretreatment needed for cotton; poor on dark fabrics. Conclusion: How to Choose? Choose Sublimation: If you need high durability, soft feel, and polyester/coated materials (e.g., sportswear, promotional items). Choose DTG/Screen Printing: For cotton fabrics or low-cost bulk orders. Choose Inkjet/Laser: For quick prototyping or industrial-grade precision. Dye sublimation excels in customization, outdoor gear, and high-performance textiles, but material compatibility is its main limitation.
Sublimation Paper Printing Notes
Optimal Printing Environment & Operation Guidelines for Sublimation Transfer Paper 1. Humidity Control (45-65% RH Recommended) Low Humidity (<45% RH) Risks: Paper curling Excessive ink absorption causing elongation/wrinkling (may scratch printheads) High Humidity (>65% RH) Risks: Slow drying Uneven paper expansion → misalignment/jamming Solution: Install air conditioning & dehumidifiers for stable conditions. 2. Identifying the Printable Side Huada Haitian Roll Paper: Printable side faces outward (shows strong fluorescence under UV light). Test Method: Apply water droplets to both sides – the smoother/more slippery side is printable. For sheet products, the printable side faces the bag opening. 3. Printing Best Practices Regular Nozzle Checks: Print test patterns frequently to ensure consistent ink flow and color accuracy. Large Dark Patterns (e.g., solid blocks): Use 90-100gsm paper at 55-65% RH. For 60-80gsm paper: Prevent moisture exposure. Maintain humidity at ~50% RH. 4. Drying During Roll-to-Roll Printing Activate the printer’s built-in heater or external drying system based on ink volume. Prevents backside ink transfer and ensures defect-free prints. Note: Adhering to these protocols maximizes print quality and minimizes operational failures.
Notes on adhesive paper
Do not expose this product to high temperature for a long time before transfer, otherwise it may cause the viscosity to decrease; The viscosity of this product will change in different temperature and humidity environments. If the viscosity is too high, you can wait for 3 to 5 minutes or longer after pressing and ironing to cool it down before tearing it off.
