The Process of Sublimation Paper

How do we choose the right sublimation paper
1.Standard Sublimation Transfer Paper (Non-Sticky) Suitable Materials: Polyester fabrics & products: T-shirts, sportswear, flags, scarves (≥65% polyester content). Hard substrates: Mugs, plates, metal sheets (aluminum/molybdenum), mouse pads (requires polymer coating). Home textiles: Pillowcases, bedsheets, tablecloths (high polyester content). Advertising & décor: Posters, banners, display fabrics. Features: ✔ Cost-effective, ideal for flat, non-stretch materials. ✔ Requires heat-resistant tape to secure during pressing. 2.Sticky Sublimation Transfer Paper (TAC Paper) Suitable Materials: Stretch fabrics: Lycra, spandex, athletic wear, swimwear. Smooth or microfiber fabrics: Windbreakers, yoga pants, wetsuits. Heat-sensitive fabrics: Prevents shifting/shrinking during transfer. Why Choose Sticky Paper? Problem: Stretch fabrics shrink or move under heat, causing ghosting/blurred edges. Solution: Adhesive backing keeps fabric in place for crisp, aligned prints. Features: ✔ Self-adhesive—no extra fixation needed. ✔ Ideal for challenging fabrics (e.g., 4-way stretch). ✔ Slightly higher cost but improves success rate. Selection Guide Material Type Recommended Paper Key Notes Standard polyester/hard substrates Non-sticky paper Secure edges with heat-resistant tape Stretch/slippery fabrics Sticky (TAC) paper Test for adhesive residue Poly-cotton blends (≤35% cotton) Non-sticky paper Colors may appear less vibrant Pro Tips For Sticky Paper: Remove backing film, press design onto fabric smoothly (avoid bubbles). Peel after cooling to minimize residue. For Standard Paper: Use high-temperature tape to secure all edges. Note: Sticky paper is optimal for stretch fabrics but test for skin sensitivity (e.g., sportswear). Always verify settings with a test print!
How should we preserve our sublimation paper
Store sublimation transfer paper in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with environmental conditions maintained at: Humidity: 40-70% RH Temperature: 10-30°C (50-86°F) Ideal Storage: Climate-controlled (air-conditioned) room for consistent quality. Special Notes for Sticky Sublimation Paper: Must be stored in <70% humidity. Keep sealed in plastic bags and place in a shaded area. General Storage Tips: Store on pallets or shelves 15-20 cm (6-8 inches) above the floor to avoid moisture. Stacking limit: ≤8 layers to prevent deformation. Shelf Life: Sticky paper: ≤180 days Other types: ≤300 days Following these guidelines ensures optimal performance and longevity.
How do we choose a good sublimation paper
From a technical perspective, a good sublimation paper should be considered from the following three aspects:transfer rate, ink compatibility, and drying speed. Transfer Rate Transfer rate is a fundamental characteristic of sublimation transfer paper that distinguishes it from regular inkjet paper. High transfer rate results in more vibrant colors on the substrate while conserving ink usage. Ink Compatibility As a manufacturer of transfer paper, our products are engineered to maintain optimal compatibility with various sublimation inks. The specialized coating is formulated to: Achieve proper solubility with sublimation inks Enable precise ink deposition for sharp image reproduction Prevent excessive ink penetration into the base paper that would reduce transfer efficiency Drying Speed Fast drying capability provides significant user advantages: Enables continuous printing operations Improves production throughput Matches increasing printer speed requirements Global manufacturers measure and compare drying speeds using surface hygrometer methods. From the perspective of use, we consider the advantages and disadvantages of sublimation paper from three aspects: Before printing: the paper has a flat cutting edge and a smooth surface, without bumps or moisture, and is rolled neatly and tightly. During printing: the printing is smooth and flat, without warping, without rubbing the nozzle, the color is uniform, there will be no color unevenness, white spots, and the printing is delicate and not flowery. After printing: the color on the fabric is uniform and bright after cutting into single sheets during transfer, and the color on the paper is uniform and there is no virtual edge.
Sublimation Paper Printing Notes
Optimal Printing Environment & Operation Guidelines for Sublimation Transfer Paper 1. Humidity Control (45-65% RH Recommended) Low Humidity (<45% RH) Risks: Paper curling Excessive ink absorption causing elongation/wrinkling (may scratch printheads) High Humidity (>65% RH) Risks: Slow drying Uneven paper expansion → misalignment/jamming Solution: Install air conditioning & dehumidifiers for stable conditions. 2. Identifying the Printable Side Huada Haitian Roll Paper: Printable side faces outward (shows strong fluorescence under UV light). Test Method: Apply water droplets to both sides – the smoother/more slippery side is printable. For sheet products, the printable side faces the bag opening. 3. Printing Best Practices Regular Nozzle Checks: Print test patterns frequently to ensure consistent ink flow and color accuracy. Large Dark Patterns (e.g., solid blocks): Use 90-100gsm paper at 55-65% RH. For 60-80gsm paper: Prevent moisture exposure. Maintain humidity at ~50% RH. 4. Drying During Roll-to-Roll Printing Activate the printer’s built-in heater or external drying system based on ink volume. Prevents backside ink transfer and ensures defect-free prints. Note: Adhering to these protocols maximizes print quality and minimizes operational failures.
